Scrum.org- Professional Scrum Master Certifications

Scrum is a powerful framework for developing, delivering & sustaining Complex product and one of the most widely used Frameworks in the Industry. This highly adopted framework utilizes short iterations of work, called sprints, and a key Inspect and adapt event called daily scrum. Scrum is not created with an Intent to manage projects, but it was created to provide opportunistic Improvements in your Product Delivery ( Of course Scrum's utility is proven successful in almost all areas Hardware, Firmware , Hospitals, Schools and what not?There are three key roles within Scrum: the Scrum master, product owner, and Scrum team members.

Ken Schwaber initially attempted to develop Scrum.org’s programs elsewhere, but ultimately, he found that to accomplish his goal of improving Scrum knowledge, training, and implementations, he would need to break away and start Scrum.org.

Coming back to Scrum, There are three key roles within Scrum Framework: the Scrum master, product owner, and the Development team. 


Scrum Master Role

The Scrum Master is responsible for promoting and supporting Scrum as defined in the Scrum Guide. Scrum Masters do this by helping everyone understand Scrum theory, practices, rules, and values.

Scrum Master Certifications

Two well-recognized organizations offer Scrum training and certifications.

We will discuss more about Scrum.org here as the Intention of this article is to talk about Scrum.org. 

Scrum.org offers Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certifications at three levels:

  • PSM I:PSM I certificate holders “prove they understand Scrum as described in the Scrum Guide and the concepts of applying Scrum.” 

  • PSM II: PSMII certificate holders “prove that they have an understanding of the underlying principles of Scrum and can effectively apply Scrum in complex, real-world situations.”

  • PSM III: PSMIII certificate holders “have a deep understanding of the application and practices of Scrum and the Scrum Values in a variety of complex team and organizational situations.”


Which Certification can I choose?

PSM I - is the beginner level for someone who wanted to Start their Scrum Journey, the benefit of taking this Certification is , it is "non expiry".

While workshop is not mandatory , but certainly will help you gain understanding.

How can I pass PSM II and PSM III?
